Drafted Who??: Valanciunas, Vesely & Biyombo Are Early Lottery Picks

The first question mark in the title is to ask why the three players who were relatively unknown to basketball fans went so high in the 2011 NBA Draft. The second question mark asks how you even pronounce their names.

Jonas Valanciunas, Jan Vesely and Bismack Biyombo went five, six, and seven respectively in the Draft, and weren’t names that you heard a lot of several weeks before the Draft, but were right up there in the top picks once draft day came.

Since many people have questions about these three, let’s look into their games a little bit based on what scouts have seen.

Cry Love: Maya Azucena Album Release Party (6/24)

 

Maya Azucena, the talented songstress who I spent time with for the first Do Process segment, is having an album release party tomorrow, Friday, June 24 at Highline Ballroom in NYC. The event is presented by the Blue Note Jazz Festival and is hosted by DJ Rich Medina. She will be performing tracks from the new album and physical copies of the album will be available there as well. Show starts at 8 p.m. and is $15. Purchase tickets here.

Don’t Sleep: L.A.

So last night I was at Brooklyn Bodega’s Show & Prove at Public Assembly in Brooklyn (shoutout to Greg Black). There the artist that stole the show for me and seemed to do the same for most was a MC by the name of L.A., hailing from Brooklyn. It was a showcase of artists, but when she was on stage (or off it with the mic, partying with the crowd) it felt like we were all at her show. I had heard of her before, but I went back and did some research, and found this video you see above. She has bars and the energy to make a splash in the business. 2 Words: Don’t Sleep.

Ladies Fifteenth: WNBA Celebrates 15th Season

The WNBA celebrated its 15th season of existence on Tuesday, the 14th anniversary of the first game in the league’s history, by holding a re-match aired on ESPN2 of the inaugural game between the Los Angeles Sparks and New York Liberty.

Do Process: Maya Azucena Works on Her “Cry Love” Album

Singer/ songwriter Maya Azucena has traveled the world touring, shared the stage with the likes of rapper Q-Tip and jazz musician Marcus Miller, and as an independent artist, she handles most of the business side of her career on her own. I spent the day in the studio with the songbird as she works on her latest album, titled Cry Love, to answer the question, “Maya, how do you do it?”
